Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Answer,
In a literal sense, Advertising is the art of showcasing a product/service to its consumer. When a company or a person advertise a product/service, he/she is conveying how the product/service would benefit the consumer with its unique and best feature. I disagree with the statement that Advertising insists people buy things they don't need. In my viewpoint, Advertising is a vital tool in the market system and can benefit consumers.
Advertising has helped to spread the right information and makes a consumer cognizant of what is available in the market. It helps drive the competition upwards benefiting to end customer by getting various options to choose product/service. For Instance, when 'Maggi' came into the market as the first Home-based Noddles, consumers didn't have any other option than 'Maggi' until other companies like 'Patanjali atta noddles', 'Sunfeast YiPee' etc, they started advertising their product. This resulted in a boost in the competition which ultimately slashed the prices of the product. Thus, Advertising plays important role in engaging the end customer such that the buyer gets the best worth of what is spending. While a consumer is the end target and beneficiary of any product produced by a merchant, a consumer is also the best judge of the decisions he/she takes in terms of what he/she wants to buy.
In my opinion, It is inappropriate to blame advertising for increased consumer spending because, in the end, the consumer has the freedom to choose which product/service want to buy. Moreover, the Government can do monitoring the right content to be published to the consumer. Hence, right and smart advertising can help a nation and its citizens in great ways by exploiting the benefits of advertising.
To draw the conclusion, barring a few disadvantages, advertising can be used as a tool to enhance the growth of an economy, bringing the right products to the consumer. boosting the competitions. All in all, I would recommend good advertising to benefit the customer, merchant, and ultimately the world economy.
